Stocksbridge & Don Valley Stadium: The whole story of Sheffield's sports centre closures

The Cost of Everything

The Whole Story of Sheffield's Sports Venue Closures

On March 1st 2013, Sheffield City Council approved plans to close Don Valley Stadium, once held up as a cornerstone of our Olympic legacy and Stocksbridge Leisure Centre, a community pool used by hundreds of schoolchildren and the elderly, as part of a £50m raft of budget cuts. The venues are owned by Sheffield City Trust, a charity set up by the council, and are operated by Sheffield International Venues, a company set up by the Trust.

Since the decision was made, serious questions have been raised over the management of SIV - and about the £180,000 cost of the Sheftival sports and music festival.
